Environment and Wildlife

Being in such a beautiful area as the South Shropshire hills, and also within an area designated as and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we want to make sure we help in everyway possible to maintain and promote the environment. From reducing our own impact on the environment (using eco-friendly laundry products and low energy bulbs) to encouraging outdoor pursuits - there are many walking and cycling routes direct from our door, we are ideally located to give your car a holiday as well yourself! The Long Mynd and surrounding area is rich in geology and wildlife with plenty to discover. There are great eateries in the village, or with a small and very healthy walk into Church Stretton, there's plenty of choice for your Evening Meals.

We have been lucky enough this year to have a wide array of bird life visit the garden, Chafinches, Bullfinches, Blue Tits and Yellow Tits to name a few and a regular visit from a Pheasant and Two Robins who are becoming very used to a morning feed. Our pheasant was originally thought to be a Grouse (though with a larger tail it became clear he - or she - is a pheasant) and is still affectionately known as Gordon. We were disappointed...but haven't told Gordon as "she" may get upset!

December 2008. "Gordon" hasn't been seen in the garden for a couple of months now...however...we have had several sightings of her mate and what we believe to be one of their offspring. Father and Child are a little more timid than Gordon and unfortunately when sighted make a rather hasty exit and escape before we can get the camera!

February 2009. Both adult young pheasant have been spotted foraging aroung the Bird Feeder and at the back of the garden, they stayed around long enough for us to get our camera this time.
